Is Therapy for Me?

Looking for a therapist is daunting, and let's be honest, you don't need one more thing on your to-do list or one more thing you aren't succeeding at.

Man ovewhelmed wrapped in phone cords

You aren't even sure you need a therapist. You are smart, driven, and resourceful; you can get a lot done in a day! Besides, people are counting on you. Your partner, kids, pets, boss, friends, parents, etc. all have needs demanding your attention RIGHT NOW. Your needs can wait. Drink another cup of coffee and dive back in. "I'll make time for me later," you say, knowing you probably won't. You can't let anyone down because who are you without that external validation?

Yet, even though you are getting through the day, you know something isn't right. You are anxious, sad, and frozen by the uncomfortable pairing of perfectionism and low motivation. You feel helpless and hopeless relegated to a life running on muscle memory (both emotional and physical). You can't remember the last time you truly felt at peace.

You might be here for more than one reason. Maybe you're ready to deal with your relationship with food and your body.

Previous dieting attempts have left you confused about hunger and fullness. Eating has become some weird combination of routine, comfort, and punishment. It is fraught with all the feelings. You find yourself stuck in a loop of over-, and then undereating.

Moving your body does not bring you joy. Being in your body does not bring you joy.

It all feels really hopeless.

In case no one has said this to you, dieting is trauma. Living in thinness-obsessed culture is trauma.

Your body deserves better. You deserve better.

You are here because somewhere inside of you is an internal voice telling you that you are worthy of care; that you deserve some time that's just for you. You can see if there's a better way to move through life. You can take a moment to explore the roots of your struggles (or process and let go of known traumas), find a new way to function; a way that learns to accept and care for yourself as you are now.

When you're ready, text, email, or call me and we'll schedule a free consultation.

About Kate Foutz, LCSW

Welcome to Waterwheel Counseling. I'm so glad you're here.

Nothing is more important to me as a therapist and a person than compassion and inclusivity.

I am passionate about helping individuals overcome anxiety, trauma, depression, and the burdens of people-pleasing and perfectionism.

I believe the therapeutic space should be a sanctuary – a safe and nurturing space where you can explore your deepest thoughts, struggles, and traumas without judgment.

In therapy, we will work together to help you increase your understanding of who you are and how to love and nurture that person.

In the words of one of my wonderful clients*

"I want to see myself as I am, not as others say I am."

*All of my clients are wonderful, amazing people
